biana was usually energetic, as bubbly as it got. hence why parties and aer got along. but this was not a frenzied party. this was the aftermath, with rewinds back in time that shattered someone into pieces on the floor among broken crystal cups and lushberry stains red as blood; this was the aftermath with tears and insecurities spilling out of two people onto the tile.
this was the recovery after the rush.
this was the quiet aftermath.

There was no birdsong outside. The hour was too early, morning’s watery blue light still hesitant to seep through the window.
Through sleep-heavy eyelids the king looked unmarred, the milky low light doing well to hide any pallor mortis. He could have just been sleeping, as with any other day. It was his stillness that betrayed him. His chest did not rise and fall with the easy rhythm of breathing. The warm blanket of pre-dawn kept it from yet looking eerie.

“Yes, I do!” Marcille cries, voice louder than expected. Her chest heaves with an emotion she can’t quite place—one that’s edging on humiliated, embarrassed. “You—you courted me first, so I have to respond!”
Falin blinks wetly. “I don’t think—”
Marcille shushes her with a finger to her lips. Falin grins behind it, her sharp canines bracketing Marcille’s finger cutely.
“So let me,” Marcille continues. “Please? I’m—I’m trying here.”
“Ok,” Falin says, fingers encircling Marcille’s wrist to lower it. “I trust you.”
Then—
“And I accept.”
Marcille rolls her eyes. “I’ve barely started! And I’ve been doing a terrible job—”
“Doesn’t matter,” Falin says, nudging her nose against the pulse beating in Marcille’s wrist. “I accept anyway.”
OR: Elves don't share the same courting rituals as other races, just as Marcille and Falin don't share the same life experiences as others. And, just like life, sometimes things require a bit of adapting.
