In 97AC, Lady Aemma of House Arryn, died after giving birth to her and Prince Viserys' daughter, who he named as Rhaenyra Targaryen. After the mourning period was over, King Jaehaerys arranged a match between Prince Viserys to the poised and well-mannered Lady Alicent Hightower, a court favorite who had made a strong impression on the aging king. They were soon married in the Great Sept of the Palace. In 98AC, Lady Alicent gave birth to a son and named him Aegon, and the court began to whisper of his place in the line of succession.
Yet in 103AC, when Prince Viserys was crowned King Viserys the First and his second wife as Queen Consort Alicent, the King shocked the realm when he decided to name Rhaenyra, the daughter of his first wife as his heir and not the son born of his second wife. The decision caused tension behind the walls of the Red Keep.
And the realm, ever watchful, began to ask: what would become of the Targaryen legacy when fire and blood ran in more than one line?

When she was fifteen, her mother betrothed her to Lord Manderly, a man old enough to be her grandfather. No one was willing to speak against the match, so she tried to seduce her widowed brother, Baelon and gain her freedom. Unsuccessful and resigned to her fate, Viserra snuck out with her friends for one last night of laughter. On their way back, there was an accident, and the Princess fell from her horse and died.
Or: Viserra did not die that night, and instead, the Fourteen Flames showed her the horrors of the future. Forewarned, she will stop at nothing to protect those she loves.
