“You’re gonna love this,” she promised, murmuring an incantation that Bella couldn’t quite make out. In front of Shadowheart appeared a small portal, perhaps six inches in diameter; before Bella could question it she’d inserted her middle and ring finger, making a fingering motion.
As she did, her fingers rose out of the underwear and did the same, shining a brilliant gold. Shadowheart scissored her fingers in the portal with a triumphant grin as Bella burst into laughter.
“My love… is this your way of trying to get me to try exhibitionism?”
Shadowheart froze, clearly caught in the act, before she admitted with a shrug, “I won’t say I’d be against that…”

Too many things to be said and none of them came out. Instead, Roxie tripped over her tongue, warmth spreading all over her. Watching Velma sashay away, cackling, was the tipping point: out, guttural, Roxie growled, “I hate you.”
Velma turned around, wearing a knowing, cloying smile. “What was that?”
Pointless question. She knew ’cause it wasn’t anything either of them were strangers to hearing. She knew and she was striding one long leg over the other, cat-walking to Roxie, fury-mute, unable to look away.
“We’re going to get back into form,” Velma said, coming to a stop right in front of Roxie. “My legs and yours and our arms. Then we’re going to do my move and we’re going to get it right on the first try because I know what I’m doing and,” she said, rolling her head to a nonexistent audience, “as much as it pains me to admit, so do you. Now you do, anyway. Because of me whipping you into shape.” She spun to Roxie. “I hate that I need you to be worth shit in this town anymore, and sweetcheeks, you can say it loud and proud, too. But that’s fine and dandy! I told you before: I can work with hate.”
