To be honest, an unpleasant story to read. Not quite sure I'll be able to go back to it again, certainly not soon. And yet I find that I need to keep this one on my bookmarks, because a kudos or a comment would not do this story justice. Not its beautiful prose, or its spot-on characterization and over everything else, the incredible debates between the characters, as they ponder and consider the situation at hand. The philosophical conundrums raised in this story are absolutely marvelous.
And to be clear, by unpleasant I don't mean anything wrong. It's true angst, in its purest form, and perfectly executed; it's unpleasant because while I was reading I could feel the knot in my stomach tighten more. Almost every single chapter I got goosebumps, and in particular the ending of chapters six and seven almost brought me to tears. There's something haunting about that song, in the most beautiful and heartbreaking way one finds only ocasionally.
In short; this is one of those fics, the ones that shine through amidst the rest, undoubtedly better than a lot of published books. To the author, thank you for that: I love it.
