"It wasn't often that Sodapop and Johnny spent time together, just the two of them. Usually, Ponyboy or Dallas would be with them, seeing as how those three are practically attached at the hip. But the gang wanted ice cream for dessert, and it was a unanimous vote for Sodapop to go and get it. During Soda's groaning and grumbling, Johnny felt bad and decided to tag along, and the two of them opted to just walk the 15 minutes to the nearest convenience store instead of wasting the gas."

"Steve and Sodapop weren’t ones for romance. Getting to work together at the DX almost every day was a date enough for them. They didn't need the fancy nights that Darry and Two-Bit planned out for themselves, and they didn't want to have a picnic under the trees like Dallas and Johnny. Their ‘dates’ consist of spilling motor oil on their pants and getting scrapes on their arms from being elbow deep in an engine block. They did go to drag races together often, but they didn't really see that as a date since they've been doing it for forever."

Being in the position he was in, it only made sense for Darry to be the one to take the other guy's place. It would only be for four days. Darry was fine with this. Keith was freaking out a bit, to put it lightly."
