    Summary

    5 months.

It had been 5 months since Color escaped the VOID. 5 months since Core found him, 5 months since he had been accepted into the Omega Timeline, 5 months since he began to get adjusted to life outside the VOID, and 5 months since he had been introduced to Delta.

And in those 5 months, they had both grown together - and whether he knew it or not, Delta was helping him grow.

Delta had always been the rock of their relationship. The strong one, the leader, the protector - and Color was happy to follow.

That was, until, one fateful night when Color awoke to glass breaking.

Rushing out of his room, he ran out to find Delta on the ground, breathing but not looking entirely alive.

Looks like it's Color's turn to be the rock.

    Summary

Color was peacefully resting on the couch, before he heard keys jingling from the front door. Immediately, he knew it was Delta, and paused his show to greet his roommate.

Smiling as the door cracked open, he began to speak, "Hey, Delta! How was the-"

He was swiftly cut short when someone was seen trailing close behind Delta.

Delta brightened up at the sight of his roommate, but he seemed... off. He was smiling almost anxiously, pulling the figure behind him as if to cloak them from Color's view.

"Hey Col! Uh, listen, I have someone I want you to meet!" He said nervously, silently begging for Color to not freak out.

    Color's smile dropped immediately.

    'Someone to meet'...?

He wasn't expecting Delta to bring home a friend so quickly. But doubt began to cloud their mind.

What if he left them for this new person? How will he survive?

His empty plate should inspire him to be brave by now.

It does, in some mysterious, clumsy way, but it happens.

“Were we really friends before. . .?” Cross pauses, looking around as if that explains everything.

Luckily for Epic it does. His smile doesn’t falter for a second and Cross thinks it’s a waste to have someone as kind as him give him such a nice gesture.

“Mhm yeah. You could say we were friends” Epic’s voice breaks through, like a beam of light chasing away the darkness in a sweep.

    Summary

He wasn’t in Nightmare’s castle, the cold stone walls of that place had been replaced by lively murals full of colors and joy a couple of days prior. And he wouldn’t find Killer standing between him and freedom this time around, guarding the exit like the loyal little dog that he was. The bastard was lying motionless and unresponsive in their enemy’s bed, just as powerless as he always claimed they all were.

For once, there was nothing there to stop him.

His phalanges closed around the brass knob of the front door; he could already taste the frigid night air and hear the bustling of the city. His freedom was within reach. And it all came crashing down on him as a tired voice spoke up behind him: “Leaving so soon?”. It didn’t sound harsh, nor was it phrased like an accusation or an order, but Dust froze in place nonetheless. Years of being beaten into submission were ingrained in his bones to the point that his body just wouldn’t respond to him, no matter how much he tried to force it to.

    -

or, Freedom lies on the other side of the door. So why is Dust struggling to reach for it?
