    Summary

What Al-Haitham hadn’t mentioned at the time was the fog he’d lived in before Kaveh moved in. Al-Haitham wasn’t the emotional type. He could acknowledge the regret swirling around in him while also recognizing it wasn’t productive. What was done was done and there was nothing he could do to change it, so he let himself move forward because it was the only way to go.

But then Kaveh came back anyway, the Light of Kshahrewar returning like dawn. Al-Haitham saw him—the shine of his golden hair like a beacon in the dim light of Lambad’s Tavern calling Al-Haitham back to shore—and tugged Kaveh’s arm over his shoulder before dragging him back home. He remembered the weight of Kaveh against his side, feeling the ghost of it like a phantom limb even months later. Kaveh, warm. Kaveh, smelling like wine. Kaveh. Kaveh. Kaveh.

Now that Kaveh lived there, Al-Haitham didn’t need much more light anyway. But Kaveh wanted it, and how was Al-Haitham supposed to say no?

Or, Al-Haitham misses his cat Kaveh.

(Kaveh is not a cat, that is a metaphor.)

    Summary

“It reminds me of you,” Al-Haitham says, slow and pondering as it is certain, and Kaveh almost topples over right then and there when he realizes that it had only taken work and meal times and sleep to tear Al-Haitham out of this room where he’s perpetually surrounded by the sweetened remembrance of Kaveh built up around him. It’s perhaps one of the most romantic things he could have said at the moment in that understated and yet viciously evident way of his.

God, Kaveh wants to say. Don’t remind me of how much I love you, Al-Haitham.

    Summary

Collei observes him while he thinks, and a small smile creeps onto her face that he doesn’t recognize at all. “You like him.”

“Well - no - it’s not like that -” he stutters, but it’s no use. Collei giggles, hands pressed to her mouth. He gives up on trying to stay serious after a moment, laughing along. What’s the point of denial? He can’t pretend not to be in love with Alhaitham.

He recovers from the laughter much faster than Collei does, neck warm with embarrassment. He’s glad Alhaitham isn’t home to witness the conversation. He would never hear the end of it.

“For the record,” he says, “I do not like Alhaitham. He’s the most irritating person I know.”

Tighnari and Cyno temporarily leave Sumeru, leaving Collei behind with Alhaitham and Kaveh. Kaveh tries to stay sane in these new circumstances.

    Summary

Mehrak has this habit of opening Kaveh’s door when it’s not fully closed, nosing her way into his office and then leaping onto his lap to snuggle her head into his stomach. So he’s not entirely unsurprised when he hears the door creak open, slow and deliberate the way his cat always does it, and he doesn’t even look up to check that it’s her before he speaks.

“Not right now, solnyshko,” he calls distractedly, too focused on his current sketch.

There’s silence, as there usually is since Mehrak can’t actually respond to him. Then, “Don’t be so vulgar, senior.”

Kaveh accidentally calls Al-Haitham a pet name in a different language, and then he keeps doing it. It's too bad he forgets that Al-Haitham is fluent in all of them.
