Izuku swallows. “My plans would have…gotten civilians killed?”
Aizawa stares at him for another long moment, then breaks off and rubs at his eyes. “Your plans had an excellent chance of preserving civilian lives.”
Izuku waits, uncomprehending.
“However,” Aizawa continues, “I’d say on average, there was about a 30% chance your suggested course of action would have gotten you killed.”
Izuku fails a test and Aizawa issues an ultimatum.

Midoriya’s phone rang just as he was getting ready for bed. He reached out in the dark room to check who was calling him so late and tensed up when he saw All Might’s name on the screen. Had something happened?
"Hello?" Izuku mumbled sleepily.
"Midoriya, my boy! I’ve found a new training method for you. We need to try it out," came All Might’s energetic voice on the other end.
Or: Deku and All Might are playing Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes. Aizawa overhears them and thinks they’re talking about a real bomb.

“It hurts,” Izuku whispers to no one, voice thin and choked. Letting the words out makes it all feel real, and the tears he’d been holding back finally break the dam and roll down his cheeks. Wrapping his own arms around himself as he trembles in the storm of his despair is as close as he’ll be able to get to comfort right now. “It hurts, it hurts.”
He doesn’t want to have to do this alone. He’s so tired of having to push through pain alone. It’s something he’s been doing all his life, but can’t he, just once, have someone to hold him up when he stumbles?
Just once. That’s all he’s asking for.
