camp half-blood hadn’t thrown a party like this in ages. the wine god was in a surprisingly lenient mood (a rarity), so when someone floated the idea of a proper celebration, dionysus waved them off with a gruff, “as long as no one dies, do what you want.”
annabeth wasn’t exactly a party person. but tonight was an exception.
percy was supposed to come back to camp tomorrow. the thought alone had her heart doing backflips she pretended to ignore.

Summary
Years after Belos' defeat and the alliance with the Collector, things have settled into a new normal. Amity and Luz are married and have a young daughter named Azura. Hunter and Willow have also married and have just found out that they are going to become parents!
Hunter looks back on the events leading up to the birth of his and Willow's first child.
Triggered by outside influences which stir fear and doubt within him, Hunter wonders if he is incapable of being a good father given the nature of his own upbringing.
As the pressure builds, Hunter will need to lean on the support of his found family and friends to make it through unsolicited advice, planning a surprise baby shower and the public’s fascination with his past life under Belos in order to protect what is most precious to him.

To Hunter, the concept of celebrating his birthday is revolting.
Only Camila and his therapist can piece together the reason why. In his respective conversations with them about his birthday plans, he can only manage to offer snippets of truth wrapped in soft, padded euphemisms. By the downturn in his therapist’s lip and the clenching of Camila’s hands into fists by her sides, he can take a wild guess and say that they can understand the words he’s not saying.
His friends, on the other hand, are a different story.

Summary
Explaining safety to Hunter is a little bit like trying to explain what a mangosteen or guava tastes like to a white middle schooler from Connecticut.
She can say that a guava is a pear-shaped fruit known for its delicate flavour that resembles a combination of pear and strawberry, but it’s really just skiffed from the peach-pink carton of Maaza-brand guava juice that doesn’t really taste like guava but a whole lot like sugar. It’s good, but it’s not the right explanation or definition and that’s matters.
Luz reflects on her role as Hunter's sister post-canon.

Hunter was talking animatedly about plant magic and reaching for a grape from the center of the table when it happened.
“ENOUGH!” Belos boomed, his voice dark, barely restrained.
And Hunter, shocked by the sudden interruption, jerked, his arm catching a glass and tipping it tumbling to the flagstone below.
It broke with an almost musical crash.

So he didn’t see his water glass, sitting on the edge of the table. He didn’t think to tone it down when he swung his arms wide in an excited gesticulation. Ms. Camila was laughing at his antics, interested right along with him. He didn’t even feel his knuckles brush against the glass.
He didn’t notice until the glass shattered on the floor. Until it was too late.
Hunter froze, mouth open, at the sound of the crash. He glanced down at the glass, and then at Ms. Camila, as his heart began to race.Or, contrasting scenes in Hunter's time with Belos, and Hunter's home with Camila.
