All Might stared at the number that seemed to be laughing incessantly at him, his heart full of sorrow. It wasn't Midoriya that had failed - it was he who had failed. He hadn't successfully taught the boy how to fight or handle the tremendous power of One For All. The boy was far from okay - his arm and legs were injured, likely chronically, and he still didn't have the score to be admitted into the Hero Course. All Might had no idea what to do next. Nezu, however, did.
"Maybe… he was never meant to follow in your footsteps, Toshinori. Maybe he’s meant to build his own."
(Or, an AU in which Midoriya - still empowered by One For All - enters the Support Course, instead of the Hero Course, changing the trajectory of everything we know)

Yet another AU in which Izuku Midoriya is expelled from U.A.
However, with the expulsion, and the school year already underway, not even All Might is able to pull enough strings to get Izuku into another prestigious school in Japan. Desperate to find a school, lowly Takayama Hero Academy comes calling - a school desperate for students. It's a perfectly broken match, but it's the last glimmer of opportunity Izuku has.
Besides, being a Hero is more than the name - it's about the journey, no matter where it starts.
