Summary
“Jean,” murmurs Jeremy when they are gone. Jean looks at him. His teeth are digging into his lip. Jeremy reaches out to ghost his fingers against Jean’s wrist, hair shining pretty. He is so beautiful it should be considered debilitating. It is debilitating. “Are you sure?”
“No,” says Jean, and feels Jeremy’s fingers grow firmer. “I am not. But I want to try.”
“And that’s good,” replies Jeremy. His voice carries the fierceness it does when Jean decides to want something. Decides to act on that want. “That’s good. I’ll get you out if you need to, or if it gets to be too much. I will stay sober. I promise.”
“I trust you, Jeremy.”

Summary
Wishing for anything but the blood-slick weight of Kevin’s hand scrambling for his wrist, for anything at all except Kevin staring at his mouth in a dark, dark infirmary.
“Jean,” he had said, voice wrought in something that was not quite pity. Resignation. Concern. Apology.
“I do not want,” Jean had replied, clunky, lower lip swollen and left eye half-shut, “your pity.”

Summary
God. God, Josten.
David manages to press his wrist to the countertop with enough force that Neil lets go of the knife with a gasp tripping from his tongue.
Neil’s still panting, eyes wide and unseeing where they stare into David’s.
Then, a desperate plea, desperate last words— “Help me.”

Summary
“Join me in an adventure,” he says. It is not an offer, and it is certainly not a question. A demand.
Painfully, Alhaitham feels his throat constrict.
“Life is meant to be lived,” he cajoles, voice dropped low and beseeching. He blinks, eyes all-together too earnest. “You must live it, before it fades away before your very eyes. Join me, Alhaitham.”
What else was Alhaitham supposed to say?

Summary
Kaveh brings his hand up, holds his breath, sees the matching hitch and hold of Alhaitham’s chest, and says:
“Don’t make any decisions. Just do what I say.”
Kaveh’s hand lands with an aching sort of melancholy on the hollow of Alhaitham’s throat, fingers heavy on his collarbones.
Alhaitham’s breath wooshes out in one great, wet gasp, and—
He crumbles.

Summary
Viren shudders out a sigh, posture slipping into something foreign.
He looks so human, here. Logically, Claudia always knew her father was human. Always held a love for her and Soren so grand that he was willing to do anything for them – however dangerous, however vile.
-
“A human heart.”
There is a brief moment where everything tilts sideways. Kaleidoscopes dance imposing in front of his retinas before he blinks them away, resolve hardening.
He is a servant of Katolis. A servant. And he will do whatever it takes to protect his people – however dangerous, however vile.
The knife appears almost out of thin air as he holds it, hilt first, toward his father.

Summary
“You are good. You will unite the world and make it a better place. You can be honest with me.”
Is it a rule that to be a Reborn, you must be a liar? Will nearly laughs at the last statement, his vision nearly black with a fury that is completely undone. He has lied every moment of his goddamn life. It seems that Anharion isn’t exempt from such a rule, either.
“You don’t get it,” Will bites out savagely, feeling the warm flush of blood sink inside of his fingernails as he clenches his flesh between the hurting. “I’ve lost everything.”

Summary
Her grip is too tight and Aaron is too drunk. Her thigh is so warm between his legs—when she grinds into him and a spark of pleasure rolls up his spine, Aaron feels nauseous. “Fuck off.”
“Why don’t you calm down and dance for a while?”
“I was calm before you fucking touched me—“
“Shh shh, it’s okay, just relax and—“ she grinds into him again, hand reaching down to grope his ass.
“Andrew!” Aaron yells over the music. He doesn’t know if he’s even audible, because everything is so loud and they’re all drunk, but he has to try. “Andrew!”
———
AKA: Aaron cares about autonomy. The right to choose what happens to your body, when and where.
That’s why, at Eden’s Twilight, when a woman grabs ahold of Aaron on the dance floor and doesn’t let go despite his attempts, he breaks down once more.

Summary
“Jean.” It’s Coach Rhemann. He sighs quietly over the line. “I don’t even know what to do with this, but there’s a girl here asking for you. She says her name’s Elodie. Says she’s your sister—”
The phone slips out of Jean’s numb fingers and hits the ground with a loud crack.
Jean doesn’t breathe.
Elodie.
It’s impossible.
