Summary
What if Ruby and Yang were Faunus, and Ruby had Faunus night vision? What if the sisters got the therapy they have needed since childhood, as did Taiyang after Summer's death? What would happen if Yang and Ruby's Signal friends actually got involved in the story and didn't disappear after initiation? What would that change in canon? That is what this story will involve. It will follow canon for a bit, but important scenes will be changed, causing the story to change a fair bit by the time Mountain Glenn happens.

In a Remnant that never fully lost magic, there are two kinds of people who use magic. Mages are the most common, but the elite Knights are a cut above, utilizing special spells unique to each individuals (with some exceptions, the Schnee bloodline being the most well known example). Some are born with an already forming Knight core, while others suddenly awaken theirs while under duress. But this is a unique ability to humans, the lowly Faunus are incapable of magic, or so people were taught. With the reveal that Blake Belladonna, White Fang Militia member and daughter of Menagerie leader Ghira Belladonna, could not only use magic, but was a Knight as well, those who had fought to reveal the truth exposed the lie, with secret Faunus mages and Knights revealing how any Faunus with magic were killed, or had their core harvested to turn their family members into Knights, killing the original bearer in the process. That was four years ago, and now Ruby Rose has finally been certified as an official Knight after serving as her sister Yang's Squire, and eagerly joins Yang, Penny, Blake, Weiss in fighting the forces of the Grimm Queen, only for tragedy to strike during a strange Incursion in Vale, Ruby's first official one.

Summary
When Advent invades Remnant, Ozpin resurfaces in Atlas early. When it becomes clear that Remnant is doomed to fall, a daring plan to relocate to a place under the aliens control, but where they could find allies and be free of the Grimm is formed. Now, a year after the aliens first invaded Remnant, the survivors work with XCOM and the Resistance to make them pay for all they have lost, and ensure their own survival.
Takes place during the time skip between RWBY and JNR getting their licenses and the election for RWBY, and XCOM 2: War of the Chosen after all three Resistance factions are working with XCOM, and after the reveal about the gene clinics true purpose.

A rewrite/AU of RWBY that will use the established overarching plot of the show as a guideline, with a heavy focus on ongoing character development and interpersonal relationships, changes and expansion to the lore and worldbuilding to accommodate aspects of new and existing stories, and ultimately a different course of events during the tale of Team RWBY; from their time at Beacon and beyond.
