Summary
There wasn’t much for a sky to look at in the Birchwood Forest. Its proximity to the Glacier Barrens had always left it icy and somewhat desolate. Sound didn’t travel far, instead cushioned and absorbed by the soft powdery snow the forest was laden with. Its namesake trees stood tall and strong against the blizzard-like gales, with no leaves to mourn the loss of. It would be pretty, if Kai didn’t feel so alone.
The permanent winter made it timeless – Kai hadn’t seen a ray of sun in weeks, if not months. It was one of the major contenders in his arguments with Lloyd; the boy argued he’d grow stronger if he was allowed to visit the village with Kai and feel the warm rays on his skin again. Kai didn’t have the heart to tell him the village was missing the sun, too. Everywhere was.

Summary
Zoro had thought he understood loss, first with his parents, and again with Kuina. But nothing could have prepared him for the stinging agony that struck itself anew in his chest as he’d looked on at his captain and seen only a husk of the man he once knew. Glimpsed only a shard of the man he knew his captain to be; daring, outgoing, confident.
All those attributes had shattered before him, when Zoro glimpsed his captain for the first time in two years. Bowing to the hands of the living god, stripping himself bare before these-- these monsters.
Wado had materialized in Zoro’s hand before he’d even had time to process what he was seeing before him. It was risky – this wasn’t the plan, it wasn’t the plan, but–
Staring at his captain, Zoro didn’t care. The rest of the world had never mattered when it came to Luffy.

“I don’t get why we gotta wash it,” Luffy whined, though he let Sabo continue his ministrations. “The water cleans it just fine!”
“This is gross, Luffy,” Sabo complained loudly, though he kept his hands dutifully buried in Luffy’s black locks, scrubbing gently and working the water in as he went. “Water is not enough to get it clean.”
Truly, it wasn’t Luffy’s fault he’d never had a haircut --- let alone washed his hair; and seeing how he’d behaved when Dadan had told him he had to bathe every day, it was safe to say he’d never been taught.

His older brother is perched with his back to the scientist, head twisted around so as to catch a glimpse of him. Without his mask, the pale, flickering light of the television casts his face into a bright array of freckles, eye bags, and kindly twinkling eyes. On a perpendicular seat sits Raph, raising an invisible, unimpressed eyebrow.
“You look like shit,” the hothead comments.
“Thank you, Raphael,” he grumbles, managing a half-hearted, bleary glare.
