Mondstat is a city of saints and a city of fools, Kaeya believes. The people are saints because they took him in, and they are fools because they took him in.
Well, it’s the City of Freedom, he supposes. If the city chooses to harbor the very thing that leads to its demise, then that’s its own business. The Archon certainly believes so. For what it’s worth, it seems to have worked out alright if one is willing to omit the memory of the aristocracy. Mondstat’s staggering warmth and color has somehow managed to seep into Kaeya’s stone-cold heart. Unfortunately for everyone- Kaeya especially- not even that can keep away the residual darkness from his place of birth. But he prefers to think otherwise.

In his defense, it had sounded like a good idea while they were getting smashed at three in the morning. Lots of inadvisable things sound like good ideas while getting smashed at three in the morning, but now that they’ve committed to it, they can’t just stop.
