She opened her mouth to respond, to push him away with words, but the words died in her throat when his lips brushed against hers, so lightly, so softly, that she almost wondered if she imagined it.
It was a fleeting touch, but enough to send a shockwave of heat through her, enough to make her entire body tense, her chest rising sharply with each breath. She wanted to pull away. She should have pulled away.
But she didn’t.

“I think you’ll find it’s more than sufficient,” he said, leaning back with satisfaction, clearly pleased with his pitch.
“And I think you’re quite delusional,” Kate retorted, but there was a spark in her eye now. “But very well. I accept your absurd proposition. Watching you squirm when this inevitably blows up in your face will be worth every second.”
