Summary
After the dust settled from the Blip, from all the chaos that followed, it just made sense. Sam needed stability. Bucky needed credibility. Marriage looked good on paper—for both of them. The public saw it as a redemption arc, the former Winter Soldier putting down roots, committing to something solid. It gave Bucky legitimacy, made it easier for people to see him as something other than a weapon. And for Sam, it was a safety net. Someone who had his back, someone who understood the weight of it all. It just happened that Bucky was the only person alive who still fit the criteria.
It wasn’t supposed to be real. Just something that worked.

Summary
A couple months after the Flag Smashers mission, Bucky's now answering Sam's calls and texts (fostering relationships, Doc!). One call, in particular, finds Bucky returning to Delacroix for what's possibly his most daunting mission yet: helping Sam fix up a run-down, piece-of-shit foreclosure he recently purchased. Bucky doesn't know the first thing about home repairs or confronting his feelings but he does know how to move heavy things, so...that's something.

“Fuck,” he says because there’s just no way. There’s no way this is real. The chances are zero of this happening, right? He shakes off the cold shock and tries again. “What the fuck?” But that’s no better.
“Funny,” Sam says, “that’s what I said. You know, you don’t look like yourself in floral shirts. Took me a while.”

Summary
“Friends, huh? That what we are?” There’s suddenly a deeper tone to Bucky's voice. He's probably sitting in his office, with his secretary right outside. Behind the same desk they banged on a few weeks ago. God. Sam inhales and shifts around in his chair.
“That’s what you said. Right, buddy?” Sam revels in the ever-suffering groan Bucky lets out. Knows he’s tossing his head back, opening up the smooth length of his neck that Sam loves to dig his teeth into.
“I explained about that.”
“Was that before or after you choked me out? Can’t recall right now. Maybe you can jog my memory—”
