Ethan is staring at him, lips curled in a soft half-smile, looking completely at peace. What a jerk, Benji thinks with no small amount of jealousy. He concentrates on everything but him—stirs a lemon wedge into the ice water he’s ordered (unnecessary, he hates lemon water), checks his messages, email, and Candy Crush status (rude, date or not.) The quiet that hangs over their table is heavy but not stifling, and Ethan just seems content to let it continue.
Benji’s mouth, unfortunately, has other plans.
“What about Ilsa?”
Ethan looks confused—how does he still manage to look hot as hell when he has no clue what’s happening? “Ilsa.”

It was impossible for Benji Dunn to think of a time when he wasn't, in some way, entirely infatuated with Ethan. There was no alternate reality where he hadn't fallen for the other agent- their paths seemed set to cross at some point. Call it fate, call it destiny. Whatever it was it inevitably led to this. Ethan, right there, as steady and charming as ever, and Benji, right there with him, too afraid to confess.
