Summary
AU. Harry accidentally Apparates to an empty Grimmauld Place when he’s nine instead of to the top of the school roof when he escapes Dudley’s gang. The house is empty except for portraits and sometimes a speaking wooden face, and Harry has to kill his own food, and there’s something nasty in the cellars, and some of the portraits are mad. But this is still a vast improvement over the Dursleys.

He could say "Oh, I’ve been doing my best, but now I’m coming undone at the thought of you" or "I hope you feel the same" or "I think I’ve fancied you since I was fifteen" or "Please touch me again, in that way you did on your birthday." He settles for “okay” and he hopes Harry understands everything that okay holds.

That said life somehow includes his long-lost godfather, a team of superheroes, a Norse god for a best friend, and a magical shop that caters to Muggles was not what he was expecting. That he ends up falling in love and getting a new family out of it was even less expected.
He thinks it all might end up being worth it.
