Summary
Yin Yu's letters continue to come, despite the fact that He Xuan returns none of them. She begins to wonder if he is not in fact tossing stones into a pond, writing for the sake of writing rather than to her specifically. But even if these letters are only to journal his thoughts, she enjoys reading them. She enjoys pretending that there is someone in the world who is somewhat like her enough to resent her for the likeness and continue to reach out all the same. She enjoys the idea, even if vague, even if absurd, that she might have a friend in the world after all.
She still thinks he could stand to be kinder to himself.
