Summary
Dew sat stiff and upright in his seat at the table, having barely touched his meal or drink. Sweat began to pinprick at his hairline and brow, and his eyes were turned down to look at his hands folded awkwardly in his lap, avoiding all eye contact. Luckily no one had asked him if something was wrong yet, Dew didn’t know how he would answer, or if he even could answer.
A sudden buzzing shook him from his thoughts, stopping as quickly as it had started. Dew flinched hard nonetheless, lips pressing into a thin line as his eyes darted up to give Aether a tense look from across the table. Aether returned it with a wild grin, showing off an unsettling row of sharp teeth. The fun was just beginning after all.

Dew acts out and Aether puts him in his place. Dew gets a "reward" for his troubles

Two years of missions, from trafficking rings to spy hunters, attempted kidnappings, underground boxing matches, and sanctioned bank robberies. The three of them have found sharing secrets helps.
The traveling and the teamwork are nice, but the steadily building sexual tension none of them know how to acknowledge keeps causing a spike in their plans while working for a company that has barely gotten its feet under it. The best they can do is scramble.

If you were to ask Sister Imperator or any of the Clergy, you would get the same hand-wavy answer – it’s an ancient ritual, full of candles and incense and texts in dead languages. Beyond that, what was there to know?

It was richer, softer and laced with the twinge of an unknown accent. It gestured non threateningly to the other chair that was offered. Arm raised and palm flat, voice rich with understanding and friendly like one of Will’s many therapists.
Not once did it take its dark eyes off him, not even when Will finally took in a breath of air.
It felt like at any moment it could leap across the table and finish what it started.
