One of Pepper’s favorite activities after a long day is putting on sci-fi movies and watching Tony dissect their bad science. He’ll happily spend two hours curled up against her and ranting about the flawed central plan in Armageddon and how REALLY, HE HOPES AN ASTEROID HEADS FOR EARTH, HE’LL SHOW HOLLYWOOD HOW TO REALISTICALLY AVOID AN EXTINCTION-LEVEL EVENT, DAMMIT. Pepper finds it oddly relaxing, like angry genius white noise. Add in Bruce, and she could sell tickets.

But he's said nothing to anyone else, and he hasn't said 'no' to me.

Is it Onegin's desire for Lensky I'm feeling, or my own for Niko?

Beautifully tangled around each other like vines and brambles. Pricking (penetrating), drawing blood and hisses. Who is now? Who is then? Does it matter? If what you desire matches like fire to fire, does it matter?

Hardison looks at him in this way that -- in this way that Eliot can't look directly at. Hardison looks at him like he's thrilled even with that shit-bare answer, that totally inadequate thing.

    Bookmarker's Notes

"Hermann would hold a gun with one bullet in Newt's mouth and pull the trigger five times if Newt asked him to, and he'd smirk even though his hands were shaking, and knowing that is enough. It's the power Newt needs to fuel the delusion that he will someday be better of this, will scab over knowing that to keep the world from ending, he helped to end the world."

Newt as the destroyer of worlds. Newt as time-bomb that hurts one to save another, while Hermann works beside and watches him tick tick ticking. Newt as broken art with blood splatters and a body that extends beyond itself. Newt as radioactive matter, as albatross, as tool forgotten on shelf. Hermann as the foil for Newt. Hermann as the foil Newt chews between his molars, hard and tight so it aches. So it hurts. (Pain is good. Pain has a beginning and an end, if he wants it. It's Destruction that goes on forever.)

Bitter and brilliant and vicious and there is no happy ending for a pair of clever creatures tied together like that.
(Pain has an end. Destruction goes on forever.)
