‘We have a useless gift, you and I’
His body stops before his brain really even registers her words, halting mid-step with a hand raised towards the heavy handles.
He turns, slowly. ‘What?’
He watches her mouth open, then close. Trembling lips sealed tight against her pain, the vulnerability of it.
He tries to make it easier for her, he always does. Crossing the aisle in a few large strides and sitting on the step below her like a devotee.
Xavier doesn’t dare to speak; he doesn’t dare to breathe. Her words come slow and careful, like she’s afraid they’re going to shatter in her mouth, sink in her cheeks, cut out her tongue. ‘All those visions, all that research, all that pain to try to control this…this…’ She struggles to say gift, she wants to say curse, she ends up saying nothing at all.
He watches her swallow, hard. Wednesday hesitates only a few moments, composing herself. Then ‘What was it all for, if those who we care for, who care for us still end up six feet under?’

Summary
It's now three in the morning, and Xavier finally has the piercing he'd been thinking about for the past three weeks and a very self-satisfied girlfriend.
'Watch out Wens, you'll have to chase girls away from me with a bat now' He jokingly tells her.
He expects jealousy, instead Wednesday still looks like a cat who got the cream, amusement giving her face a sinister allure.
'Wouldn't be the first time'
Xavier almost asks, he really does. But this moment is so precious he doesn't feel like he needs to know what poor girl incurred in Wednesday's wrath before.
He takes her in his arms from behind, resting his temple on the top of her head.
'Thank you, Wens. I love it'
'Don't let it go to your head, I only did it because that's the only way I can legally stab you'
Or
Headcanon that Xavier eventually picks up tattooing and becomes well known in the school as the person to go to for beautiful designs specially made for all kinds of outcasts.
Wednesday is the only person he tattoos for free. What the others don't know, however, is that to pay back the favor Wednesday decides to do his piercings

Summary
What Wednesday finds surprising, though, is not how well-liked Xavier is, but the fact that most people deem him as, well, harmless, benign, just the average popular guy (as average as an outcast can be, anyway) with just the right amount of angst to be an artist. And after many hours of careful consideration, Wednesday has come to the conclusion that the main reason why Xavier is seen this way, is that he's always standing right next to her. Which, okay, fair enough. Hard to focus on the passive-aggressive, sulking boy who can hypothetically animate nightmarish creatures when he's holding the hand of a girl who is rumored to eat flesh and crushed some crazy bitch's head under the heel of her platform mary-janes.
Wednesday selfishly wishes people wouldn't be so easily distracted, it would sure as hell spare her a lot of drama.
or: Ajax insults Wednesday, and Xavier doesn't care for it.
