Summary
John Walker's birthday had never been about him. Ever since he was born, one way or another plans got cancelled or changed; friends or things fell through. Still, he got his hopes up every single year, praying for something different, only to be let down again. It was hell for so long, and then it wasn't. Lemar had made it better for a while, and then just like that it went back to how it had always been; maybe how he deserved it to be—hell. John got swept up in life and his birthday got swept under the rug. So with his 39th just around the corner, John stopped expecting anything different to happen. The good in his life was gone, and it was clearer now more than ever that his birthday would never be about him, and John was almost okay with that.

John Walker was dying. This wasn't a new development; he had been dying for a long time now. 3 years, to be exact. Lemar Hoskins died 3 years ago, and he was taking John Walker with him. He never blamed Olivia for leaving him. Being married to a corpse would be hard for anyone; helpless but to watch as they sit in the same chair day after day, rotting away.
Beloved husband, father, and friend—for a time. That's what his epitaph would read. Survived by Olivia Walker, and Michael Walker. At least with them he would leave something behind.
John never really thought he would.

Summary
It was no great surprise to the others when they did this together. No eyes were batted when Bucky rapped his knuckles on Bob's bedroom door only to see Yelena curling his hair in all sorts of odd ways; and no one brought up all the times they'd gathered for "team dinner" and spotted the pair with matching nail art; and Bob was really starting to like this self-care stuff. John Walker started to like it, too. Bob's overwhelming elation at being involved in anything, regardless of what it was, was definitely a hurdle that John had to overcome. Especially when it caught the attention of his senses so much. It got better, for a day or two, but it didn't stay like that. So, the smell found John again, and again, and again.

Yelena gets Bob into self-care, and he starts wearing different colognes throughout the weeks. Unfortunately, John's sense of smell only got stronger after the serum, and all the new scents make being around Bob that much harder, until Bob finally finds a smell John enjoys.

Bob liked what he and Walker had. They hadn’t named it, and he wasn’t sure if there was a name for it, but it was nice, nonetheless. It started with small things that you wouldn't bat an eye at; Walker smiling when Bob said something smart, or funny, or stupid. It was something so small, but it had made Bob’s cheeks warm.

Dangerous characters from Theo’s past arrive in Beacon Hills and want him dead. Liam is seriously not okay with this plan; especially since they seem hell-bent on slaughtering a group of supernaturals along with him. The beta’s in charge while Scott is gone, and no way is this going down on his watch. But if Theo and Liam want to stop the assassins and not be consumed by the passion, blood, and darkness that surrounds them, they’re going to need each other.
