They shared a long look. Sam’s green-hazel gaze bore into Al’s coffee-coloured stare, both brows set firm, furrowed against each other in a duel. A battle for dominance, for authority. Neither would give an inch, Sam lowering his head and squinting while Al puffed his chest and tilted his chin up. Sam was stubborn, but Al was persistent. Sam, patient, Al, annoying.
The scientist blinked.

It's about three months after everyone split up and went home.
As hard as BJ has been trying, he can't manage to fit just right back into his family. He felt hollow; there was something he left behind back there in the war, and if he doesn't find it soon, he might never feel right again.
Hawkeye's been struggling, too, his restlessness worse than usual and thoughts too fast to catch most days. He knew what it was; he was lonely, and as much as he wanted not to be, he couldn't bring himself to meet new people, either.
Maybe the answer was easier than anyone thought.~~~

Sam has returned home; Al thinks things should be a lot easier now, but instead they're a lot harder as Sam struggles with ambivalent feelings about his return, which impacts on their relationship. Trying to confront these feelings leads them both down a complicated path, and hopefully, towards a growing intimacy.

Summary
Leap after leap had been nothing but surprises. Sam Beckett had experienced all walks of life, seen more than most men do in a single life time. But the appearance of the grey men had shaken him to his core, their red eyes piercing and distinctly alien. A group of them followed him through each leap, each time more antagonistic than the last. Al was nowhere to be seen.
"Bridge to Captain Archer."
It had to have been a movie set. It LOOKED like a movie set, after all. But there were no cameras and the stars beyond his window looked too real to have been props.
Leaping had a funny way of completely screwing Sam Beckett.
