He’s not scared of dying, not really. He’s disappointed – there’s always more to be done in the fight for freedom – but fear doesn’t cross his mind. Actions will only be remembered if a sacrifice is made. Without their deaths, the Banditos would remain the fringe group they had been before Clancy’s call to arms. So he doesn’t flinch, doesn’t fight, doesn’t cry, just stares at this creature in its emotionless, white eyes and smiles.

Summary
“We’ll get out soon.” Clancy says in an almost hopeful manner, trying not to be disheartened by the sad, hopeless look on his face. “We’ve just gotta find the right moment. Surely they can’t just keep us forever.”
The Torchbearer smiles sadly and shakes his head. It feels like he’s given up. And to be honest, Clancy is very close to giving up as well. It’s been … well, he’s not sure exactly how long, but it’s been a while. It feels like a year, or longer, and his words of encouragement feel emptier and emptier every time he says them.

Summary
“All right, Chris?” Trevor said quietly, keeping going with the circles. Chris’s hands were soft in his, a little warmer now than they had been before.
It took a second for Chris to register that Trevor was speaking to him. He blinked his eyes open, slowly, like a cat waking up from a long nap. “All right,” he said at last, the softest Trevor had ever heard him talk. His eyes had gone vague, staring at their interlocked hands. There was a half-sliver of a fond smile on his face.
It was then, and only then, that Trevor finally realized: he recognized that look and that tone of voice and that smile.
He didn’t really have the luxury of fully processing the concept that he had just (accidentally) (platonically) dommed his boss, ex-flatmate, and current crush object effectively enough that Chris was visibly out of it from having his wrists tied. From the looks of it, you’d think hardly anyone ever touched Chris kindly, or told him that he was doing a good job—
Oh. Yeah. Christ. That made sense, then.
