   It says a lot about Mark Lee’s life that the most exciting part of his day is waving at that one white-haired worker through his window, and seeing his wave returned with a smile.

   (or: it’s his final year of high school and Mark is just as frustrated as everyone else who lives in his smalltown, overshadowed by the massive chemical plant on the other side of the street. he has learned to keep his expectations low, so an affair with a stranger was never on his list to begin with, but it could be just what makes him feel alive again.)
