    Summary

Jimmy thought he was past this. Years. Whole tours. Whole lives. New songs. New versions of himself. The photo shouldn’t matter, but his ribs are a cage for a bird he thought he’d set free, and tonight it beats against the bars like it never left.

    or

Jimmy is very busy not thinking about Tango’s engagement.

    Bookmarker's Notes

I am not at all good with vocalizing how I feel so I will just say that this fic is absolutely a-may-zing and I had a devastatingly good time reading it in like a day because it was just SO, so, so immersive. The author is SO articulate, just Grian's thought processes and ruminations had me wanting more and they take like a solid half or more than a half of the total word count.

It was more than just a mystery thriller, it was tear-jerking and it was powerful - I did not expect the story to be as intricate as it was - it was like grief and love and hate painted with words.

My heart legit aches after reading this because I can't even let this go even though the whole premise IS a very defeated, mentally-suppressed Grian letting go; burning Scar's 'empty' letter, going to the pub and drinking tea again and even going to France. That blumming song as well, 'Les Feuilles Mortes', will inevitably come back in my life in passing and I will just start sobbing, like no way bro.

Being a reader of a very thoughtful and psychological book is such exposure, like yes being part of a detective story means you are also trying to work things out along with the protagonist but really this time, it was just navigating through emotions, a lost love. This fic has literally changed me, the FACT they both sort of vitalized each other IN A WAY? Scar giving him a high that Grian's detective work usually gave him back when he was in Germany or just to bury his still-aching love for Scar, thinking he's only set this game to taunt Grian for it and Scar's version of his own game ultimately set out to profuse a sick but genuine love for Grian. DUDE. In a way, the back and forth was really just the meaning behind the metaphor of their dance in Scar's cafe; Grian slipping at times and stepping on Scar's toes at first was him losing to Scar, having loved ones be killed but when he REALLY got into it, when he really started putting the emotion into it like Scar had told him 3 years ago, confronting the burning love he once had for him, only then did Scar truly fall. The author is a genius. How can I set this as the standard for my own writing because it is SO... HIGH, I'LL NEVER BE ABLE TO ACHIEVE IT. I have never seen a one-sided attraction/ obsession so clearer and more nuanced in my life. I want this forever ingrained in my brain.

Also Grian literally got his favourite memory of Scar singing/ humming come true with Scar singing to him again towards the end when he was dying, CAN YOU IMAGINE. And Scar's backstory was so rotten, getting to know him through his lens/ perspective was so beautifully executed, it wasn't like any other exploration of a (fictional) serial killer's mind I'd ever seen before. All the symbolism as well, had me gushing my heart out; the leather boots, Grian's bike, coffee, green envelopes, Grian's scar, hearts/ heartbeats or pulses, and of course the Watcher's eyes. All rounded up to be just a really satisfying (Not to mention it is SO intense, stakes were HIGH) and heart-wrenching, tragic but soft fic that left me as a shell of my former shell before reading it (in a good way) I'd recommend it in a heartbeat (hah) thank you so much author for making this.

And an ode to this quote; 'I loved you enough to forget the monster that I was. And for that I am truly sorry.' Beautiful, just beautiful mate! (Also R.I.P Mumbo, I at least took a break reading once I learnt that he was dead, christ that made me livid)

    Summary

Hermit’s Hollow was a quiet town where you learned to ignore whisperings of nonsense and the dull, persistent feeling of being watched before you learned to ride a bike. To call it pedestrian would be a great disservice to all the terrible oddities occupying it— folks and legends alike.

Not that Grian believed any of them, of course.

Or; There's something wrong in Hermit's Hollow. There's something wrong with Grian. Neither of these are a surprise to him.

    Bookmarker's Notes

Why the actual HELL did I leave this masterpiece so late I should just punch myself

I literally want to cry at how well made this fucking story is - HOLY fucking shit - this deserves a theatre release. Ten out of ten, I will never write superstitions and ghosts, especially the Weeping Woman, in a way unlike this ever again. I was also honestly surprised at how everyone turned out fine at the end but my idealistic self loves it every second so birrdie made a really good choice there and I hope the skyblings live out their happiest days along with Scar. Yeah he's just there and rightfully so, he's mega interesting here, the way he scourges and plucks at information right from Grian's winged shape palms so easily, just from looking into his eyes as well, like they were made for each other, those two short and sweet kisses they shared was my everything

So in short, my writing WILL be taking inspiration from this underrated gem, I WILL struggle to do so and I WILL be rereading this again and again and again and again and again

    Do not enter Void people!

    Summary

Jimmy catches his wrist. Tango flinches, expecting a yelp, some kind of recoil, but the world is still, and Tango watches, wide-eyed as Jimmy guides his gloved palm to his lips. The kiss is feather-light and lingering, and Tango’s throat tightens around everything he thinks. That that was a dumb move, that he could have burned Jimmy again, that the well of heat inside of him feels so very close to boiling over, and yet Jimmy is holding him anyway. He thinks he might shatter if Jimmy stops.

    Or;

The ache in Tango's shoulders isn't quite what he believes.
