And Eddie knows it, really, it's nothing new, because he and Buck have been Eddie & Buck for seven years now.
It's just... it's just scary that anyone noticed. That everyone now realizes that Eddie isn't sure he can exist in a world where Buck isn't by his side, because it would be like getting out of bed one morning and finding that someone has pulled the floor out from under his feet; because Buck, with his kindness and his big heart and his way of being generous without ever asking for anything in return, had worked his way through Eddie, under his skin, behind his bones and muscles, and had opened a window into his heart, arriving where young Eddie still existed, alone and terrified, and had sat with him in silence between the four blue walls of his bedroom.

Buck had seen Eddie off and immediately run to the firehouse with his tail between his legs, in search of a patented Henrietta Wilson Healing Hug. What he found instead was an old - ancient, really - cassette player with a sign that read simply, “play me”. Later, Chimney would half tease, half chide him for not confirming that it was meant for him before doing as the sign said and Buck would laugh and agree that it was fairly presumptuous of him to do so, but really…there was no question as to who it was for.
Buck could recognize Eddie’s handwriting with his eyes closed.
Without so much as putting his bag down, Buck pressed play.
