You move back to Gotham after failing to make it in Metropolis and accidentally stumble onto a murder scene laced with Scarecrow’s fear gas. Shaken and paranoid from the exposure, you run right into Red Robin on patrol. Instead of being seen as a victim, your behavior makes you look guilty. Tim’s instincts kick in, and he convinces himself you’re hiding something. From there, he starts watching, digging, and following — obsessed with proving a guilt that isn’t really there.

Timothy Jackson Drake was a genius.
Certifiably, he’d been tested. Twice.
He was also smart.
He had his secret hide out office, his Batman photography hobby, and a foolproof system for managing his well-meaning but often absent parents.
Everything was working exactly as planned.
Then Super Boy Prime punched a hole through reality and Jason Todd clawed his way out of his grave.
Which was good. But decidedly not Tim’s problem.
Or it wasn’t until Tim accidentally photographed a dead Robin wandering around Gotham on Halloween night.
When he couldn’t lead the zombie to Batman, he did what any logical eleven-year-old would do: he solved the puzzle, fed the zombie, and somehow ended up with an overly protective shadow who thought crossing state lines required supervision.
Rude.
Tim was starting to regret his curiosity about riddles.

Tim, the ever vigilant (always awake and never giving himself a break) vigilante, gets word of a drug bust going down. One he just so happens to be the only one available to stop. Which happens to be taking place in the very early hours of his birthday. Of course he goes on the highly dangerous bust alone. What could happen?
Or: Tim is used to being the Robin that gets thing handled, that doesn't need Batman to come rescue him. Bruce Wayne had made it very clear in the early days that Tim was not his son. Alfred Pennyworth was cold, allowing only the politeness and distance to show through his Iron Wall. Dick Grayson treated him the way he wished he'd treated his brother, Jason.
Tim was fine with this. He wasn't a child. Even if he wished for more of the small slivers of love the Wayne family were just starting to give him, he wouldn't dare take Jason Todd's place. He just hoped the support he provided for the grieving family would make Jason proud. But Jason Todd came back, and he sure made it known he wasn't. He made sure Tim knew exactly what he thought of the cuckoo in his family.
Now, the Wayne family has their lost son back and Tim has a job to do. Just, not in this dimension?

Tim thought about how Batman’s cloaked figure swallowed the city’s light like a black hole. How his scratched palms and bruised body ached from his dash across the rooftops. How terrifying the world would be from behind bars, all because some twisted part of him couldn’t get the idea of standing beside Batman and Robin as a family out of his head.
“Right,” was all he could say.
Or: Jason doesn't die and Tim doesn't become Robin. Meanwhile, something is stirring in Gotham. If Tim can figure it all out, maybe the Waynes won't overreact about the whole stalking them for four years straight thing.

Compulsivity is action. Action can be taken and completed at any time, it’s mindless. It’s repetitive movement, expected and anticipated more often than not.
Obsession is far worse. Obsession plagues the mind and overtakes rationality. It spins spiderwebs in the brain and warps your very being. It can spawn from the simplest thing and then spiral into an all encompassing essentiality.
TLDR; Tim needs to know everything, Damian is hard to know and the world makes it impossible. Plus a stroll on the darker side of Gotham!
