Summary
A figure stands before him.
Carlo flinches, startling at the sight. He instinctively takes a step back, feet slipping over scattered cards. He fumbles on the floor for only a moment before scrambling to his feet, upright once more, eyes racing to find whatever lay in the darkened corner.
Before him a figure dark and looming stands, its eyes a piercing lance, its face a mirrored reflection of Carlo’s own.
Carlo stares up at the figure. The puppet called P stares back.

Carlo is enjoying his new life, free from the past. But when P returns, Carlo begins to question what's truly real. How can the broken puppet be here now? And what revelations will his appearance bring?

“Romeo,” Carlo said softly. Romeo couldn’t help but be entranced by the way Carlo’s eyes met his, a warm brown instead of a piercing blue, to marvel at the fact that the two of them were somehow sitting together in the ruins of the opera house. That they were together at last.

There was something wrong with Toby.
It was a simple statement, yet it was a fact that Toby knew to be true with all of his heart.
It wasn't the heavy air that surrounded his home that tipped him off. Nor was it how Orin took to shaking and stuttering when Tobio was around, looks colored with pity. It wasn’t even the sad glances that Toby would only see when his father thought he wasn’t looking, eyes condemning and contemplative.
It wasn’t any of them that were off; it was Toby. Something deep and heavy inside him.
