He hugged her back. “Hi Olivia. Hi, Noah. Where’s Aunt Emma?”
Noah sat down on Player’s couch. “She’s just helping your step-dad unpack our car. Olivia brought like three bags, for two days.”
“Wow. What’d you need to bring that badly, Liv?” Player sat across from Noah, crossing his legs and leaning back.
Olivia kicked Noah’s leg. “I mean, obviously I had to bring clothes and stuff.”
“And every single piece of your Carmen Sandiego merch.”

Summary
The few times one of them had actually been face to face with Carmen, he had been silent. Dead silent, you couldn’t even hear his breath. It felt like the only time that they couldn’t hear him constantly typing. It was like he froze. After she was gone, though, and they told him, he always immediately asked them if she had looked okay. If she had looked like herself. If there had been any, any, flash of recognition in her eyes.

Summary
He knew Carmen had nightmares about it, she had them everyday for the week after. More often than not, she’d tap her earrings immediately, and only breathe out when she heard his voice. He’d talk quietly, sprinkle bits of their usual banter into more comforting topics, and a lot of the time she would fall back asleep. This made sense, and he honestly found it comforting as well, a reminder in the dark hours of the night that she was okay, that she could reach for him. (Metaphorically, but still.) What Player didn’t expect was nightmares of his own.
