Summary
In the late 19th century, Purgatory's Sheriff Nicole Haught makes a deal with a sea witch to save her town from a plague. The witch curses Nicole with immortality, binding her to a lighthouse, and turns the Earp sisters into mermaids. Present day, mermaid Waverly is drawn to Nicole and the lighthouse, defying her sister's warnings to stay away from the surface.

It had only been just over a month since she had moved from Purgatory into the city to take up a teaching position at the university while she worked on her PhD, but she already felt far removed from her old life. It had been something of a whirlwind so far, her weekdays spent trying to find her feet in a new job and juggling her workload with her studies. Her weekends, however, had followed a similar pattern to the one she was currently in the midst of: holed up alone in her apartment, eating in front of the TV.
Keen to branch out and make new friends in an unfamiliar place, Waverly decides to join a walking group. A group which just so happens to be led by one Nicole Haught...
