Roy lets out a soft laugh, pressing his forehead against Jamie’s as he closes his eyes.
“Yeah,” Roy agrees. “And you’ve got two good knees. That’s fucking embarrassing for you.”
Jamie lets out a loud laugh, jostling Roy a bit where they’re connected. “Fuck off, dickhead. You complain all the time about how exhausting Phoebe is. All grumbly and fond.”
“Maybe,” Roy gives, easing a little bit further into Jamie’s grip. He can feel one of Jamie’s hands playing with the small hairs on the back of his neck—fingers smoothing and then pulling in an intoxicating rhythm. It’s soothing, Jamie’s touch. It’s soothing and lovely in a way so many things in Roys life aren’t.

Summary
Jamie and Roy have been together two full months, and it’s been awful, which is to say that Roy has never been happier, and it’s fucking terrifying. Every time Jamie smiles that toothy, pleased grin at him, there’s a rush of warmth in Roy’s chest, and immediately following, a spike of fear so visceral that it nearly bowls him over, feels impossible to rationalize.
It's a conundrum, but one that Roy is ready hand off to a higher power.

Roy clenched his jaw and shook his head. “I don’t hate you,” he finally managed, truthfully. “I fucking don’t, Tartt—Jamie. You just fucking—” He reached out and curled his fingers around the back of Jamie’s neck, squeezing.
“I—” Roy’s voice, embarrassingly, gave out, and he growled, taking a deep breath before he continued, “You’ve got the fucking potential to be one of the fucking best players in the League, Tartt, and I know you’ve got the work ethic too.”He shook Jamie once, and added, “Stop making yourself fucking smaller. Be a fucking prick on the pitch. Learn to fucking read the situation. You’re good at this shit—I know you are.”
Jamie managed a tiny, quivering grin. “Careful mate. Someone ‘ears you, they might think you like me.”
Roy scoffed. “No fucking chance of that.”
—Roy doesn't like to think he's taking advantage of Jamie. He's making him better, stronger, faster, a better player, and now that he's got the fucking muppet actually behaving for him, he'll be damned if he lets him go.
