The mission in the Land of Waves was a great awakening for Team 7. For Naruto and Sasuke, it was their newfound bond and the challenge to become stronger. For Kakashi, it was a startling realization of what it would take to be a jonin teacher. For Sakura, it was realizing how far apart she was from her teammates. A top level jonin captain, a highly skilled Uchiha, and very boisterous, stubborn, fearless, knucklehead ninja. Sakura contemplates her place on the team, wondering what could possibly be her contribution.

Summary
Shinobi from civilian families tended to fall into one of two categories. Either they were mediocre and never progressed much past genin, or they were exceptional. The exceptional ones were a valuable resource, though mostly they were not aware of it.
Clans guarded their members jealously, often preferring to marry members off to civilians before shinobi from rival families, but the rare civilian-born jounin or chuunin was obviously the best of all worlds; strong, trained, and above all not affiliated with another clan.
For the Uchiha, one of these exceptional kunoichi would be their next lady.
