Summary

After he's tricked into replacing ED, the AI core controlling the facility that has a strange history of bizarre behavior, he and ED have to uncover the mystery of what happened at the facility and how their histories intersect.

Summary
Stede signs himself up for his first long-haul voyage in response to a job listing that boasts "a soft onboarding with a taste of adventure."
Instead, he finds a greenhouse in disrepair, a dead body, and a much more charismatic ship than advertised.
((No OFMD characters were harmed during the making of this fic. tbh this fic is way more pining and romance than it is scifi.))
“I know,” Ed says, quick and, if Stede's not mistaken, a touch defensive. “'Course I know. I'm the smartest thing on this ship. I am this ship. Just curious 'bout your... expert opinion, I guess.”
“Well, Ed, I'm hardly an expert.”
“Aren't you?” Ed says, the slightest bristle to his tone.
“I'm good with plants,” Stede concedes with a little sigh. “We understand one another.”
That, and plants have always appreciated Stede better than any human ever has.

Summary
Only once they were out of sight of the café did the man stop and take his arm away, giving Stede a sheepish little grin. “Looked like you needed rescuing back there,” he said, and then held out his free hand. “I’m Ed.”
Stede, still a little dumbfounded, grasped Ed’s hand in a weak shake. “Stede. Stede Bonnet. I’ll pay you back for the tea, I promise. I get paid next week.”

It wasn’t quite the same blow Ed had been expecting, but still – not bloody ideal.
“Right then. I mean, I can wait here, I suppose.” He looked down and began to shuffle his feet. “Hopefully the English won’t, you know, send me out on some mission in the meantime.”
Then Stede charged into him, grabbing Ed by the wrist, finally touching him.
“Come with me,” Stede asked him desperately – no, ordered – which Ed had always found really...persuasive.
