Summary
Ken takes a breath. “Let me, um… say what happened first, then we can go.” He adjusts his bag, then hands it over to Sanada. Usually he carries it while they run for extra training, and Ken doesn’t feel like he needs the extra deadweight today. “I dropped Makoto’s music player. It—broke.”
“Oh.” Sanada frowns. “That sucks. Can it be fixed?”
“Yeah, Fuuka-san is going to fix it when she gets back.”
Sanada smiles at that, setting a hand on Ken’s shoulder as he slings the bag over his back. “Nothing to worry about then, right? Come on, let’s see if we can make a better time today.”

An unfortunate chain of events leads Ken to breaking Makoto's music player. While Ken knows Makoto won't be angry, he finds himself unable to keep from dwelling on it.

Summary
Just then, over Davey's shoulder, he sees a flash of movement on the staircase. He squints and leans to the side a little to get a better look.
There's a kid coming down the stairs. A glowing, unnervingly pale, slightly translucent kid, who's dressed like he just stepped out of another century. He stops halfway down, looking at Jack with a worried expression, and Jack stares back, utterly confused.
"What the fuck," Jack whispers, blinking hard, as if it'll clear his vision. When he opens his eyes, the kid is still there. "What are you doing in my house?"
