Summary
“Val?”
That fucking assistant. As if Val wouldn’t have enough on her plate without that rebelling woman. Girl. She was what, twenty, thirty years younger than Val? And she thought she knew better? Or even worse, had a crisis of faith. That couldn’t be fixed and Val wasn’t sure if she would find another personal assistant that was as good. Yes, that was all her disappointment was, absolutely. Mel was a good assistant to her, nothing else. Valentina leaned back in her chair, feigning nonchalance. Her eyes raked over Mel, assessing.

Summary
Val is jealous, and Mel is tired of her bullshit.
OR
“You’re out of line, Mel.” Val narrowed her eyes. If she was surprised by Mel’s sudden outburst, she didn’t show it. She only looked irritated.
Mel rolled her eyes again, but this time it was far more exasperated.
“And there you go, right on cue, giving me that look. You always do that whenever I say something you don't want to hear. I'm well aware I'm 'out of line', Val. But someone needs to call you on your bullshit once in a while, and everyone else is too afraid you'll bite their head off to do it."
