When Tony had set out on his run the sky was its usual clear blue. It hadn’t been until he was at his route’s point furthest from home that the clouds had rolled in and the rain began. Initially, it had actually felt good as the rain helped to cool him off.
Having taken Alex’s lessons about awareness to heart he’d noticed a scratching noise from a trash can as he waited to cross the street. So Tony investigated. The next thing he noticed was movement. He’d been debating if he should actually go through the trash when he heard a soft, but desperate, mewling that blew through any remaining hesitations.

At the opposite end was another student, Jake, holding a bag of ice against the back of one hand. Tony’s black eye and split lip didn’t look great, but Jake’s hand looked worse. Even with the extensive swelling, something was clearly dislocated.
