Penelope hears the words, but as she wobbles to a stand, it feels like the ground is splintering under her feet. Colin. As in that Colin. Colin Bridgerton? As in Colin who took her heart, tossed it out into the middle of the street, and ran over it multiple times, Colin? She repeats his name dumbly in her mind, blinking, blinking, blinking. She stays silent for several seconds, her heart in her stomach, desperately trying to fathom the reality of the news that she’s just been given.
Sophie ventures out hesitantly, her voice soft. “Penelope?”
Penelope staggers back into the present, her hand on her forehead as she paces the length of the room. “No, No, No. She can’t do this, isn’t it like nepotism by association since you’re seeing his brother?”
