“I know what you are.” She whispers, wrapping her arms around her torso. The needles of fear, of anxiety, and apprehension poke and prod. Silent warnings to not speak, to not tell him what he already knows she knows.
“Do you?” Jasper asks, mere feet from her. If he reached out, he could easily wrap his hands around her throat. Dakota’s mind doesn’t envision him doing it, because her body betrays her. It pretends to feel the cold in those large, scared, hands as they drag over the column of her neck. The way a breath would become lodged as he presses against the artery on one side of her throat, then how he’d begin teasing the hairs at her nape. The chill, the scrap, the way he cups her and holds her in place (forcing her head to tilt back) would have her rubbing her thighs together, her belly tightening in anticipation, and she’d bite back a moan when he finally squeezed.
It’s a game between them.
A wretched and horrible thing.There’s something wrong with her, because Dakota shouldn’t be enjoying this.
The hunt.
The chase.
The inevitable capture.“Yes.” Rain pelts them. Soaking through the dress he’d hours ago complemented.
