    Summary

With a cheerful beep, Mehrak releases the claymore, letting it clatter harmlessly to the floor.

    Neither of them speaks.

Alhaitham stands motionless at the edge of the bed, eyes still fixed on the fallen weapon. Above them, Mehrak hums contentedly, hovering like nothing had happened.

    “Explain,” Alhaitham demands.

Kaveh has recently moved back in, but the relationship between him and Alhaitham is still strained. When he overworks himself and falls ill, it's up to Mehrak to defend his master against the evil Alhaitham.

“Kaveh,” he confirms. “He is renowned in his line of work for his skill and passion.”

Lord Kusanali nods as if he had proved one of her silent queries. “I was hoping he would lend me a hand with this project,”

“I’m sure he would be honored,” he says earnestly.

She smiles, cheeks dimpling. “Do you really think so?”

Alhaitham smiles back, small, easy. “I know him quite well."

    -

Or, the one where Alhaitham is terribly, terribly in love with Kaveh.

    Summary

He thought back to how he felt, cradled in the architect’s arms in the hallway the night before.

He thought back to the feeling of soft fingers carding through his hair, made all the sweeter with the knowledge of who’s hands were holding him so dearly.

But most damningly, clear as day, he pictured Kaveh’s smile, warmer than the desert sands. His heart flipped at the image, and his breath caught. Even though it was only a memory, a fabrication, his heart warmed like he was soaking in the light of that smile.

    Oh…

He thought to himself, leaning back and closing his eyes as his heart began to race.

I think I do love him.

    A continuation, and a conclusion.

    Summary

“She’s all alone, Haitham. She has no one to care for her, no home, and we don’t even know if the word on the back of her neck is her proper name.” He met Alhaitham’s eyes, his own wide with fear and uncertainty. “You gave me a home,” he spoke so quietly that Alhaitham strained to hear him, “Can’t we give her one too?”
