It’s such a small act, but it’s got Buck’s heart racing. The way Eddie thinks of him when he isn’t even here, the way he knows all of Buck’s favourites without even having to ask.
Buck swallows the lump in his throat and it tastes a lot like I love you.

Summary
For a sickening, devastating second, Eddie thinks Buck is going to turn his back on him and rush to Tommy.
But then Buck’s expression crumples into something so sad that Eddie would do just about anything to get rid of it - to change it into the sunshine smile he’s so accustomed to. And then Buck is hurrying towards him, arms outstretched so he can take Eddie’s bruised and bleeding hand into his own.
“What the hell happened?” Buck asks, frantic. “Are you okay?”
Tommy scoffs. “He punched me,” he yells, straining against Chim and Ravi’s hold.

But now Eddie is back, and Buck doesn’t need the bed. Doesn’t need to stuff his face into the pillow to smell the lingering remnants of Eddie’s scent; he can smell it now, just standing here, deep and forestry and enough to patch every hole in Buck’s chest. But that doesn’t mean he doesn’t still want it, doesn’t wish desperately he could slide under the sheets and lay his head on top of Eddie’s beating heart.
Eddie comes home.
