“Hey, did you know that I saw a mermaid once?” Lance says, gaze fixed on the ocean. The breeze combs through his hair, tugs the sleeve of his shirt off his shoulder. In the half-light, his eyes shine like moonstone, smooth skin dark as ink. The sight of him steals Keith’s breath away.
“You won’t believe in the Loch Ness Monster but you believe in mermaids?” he asks, exhaling on a shaky, disbelieving laugh. Lance turns to him, his smile a light in the dark.

Keith reluctantly becomes the counselor for the Red Cabin at Camp Voltron, a summer camp in the middle of buttfuck nowhere that his older brother Shiro has worked at for years. Already unhappy with the current position that he is in, Keith prepares himself for a boring, sweaty, miserable summer; and his frustration only grows when he meets the counselor for the Blue Cabin- an insufferable asshole with a horrible sense of humor, a devilish smirk, an inexplicable animosity towards the Red Cabin, and a smile that literally looks like the sun.
Needless to say Keith is really, really unprepared for the next three months.

“What? No! I’m--I’m not your subconscious, I’m your--” Keith starts, but he slams his lips together in a tight lock, then looks at the waves, while Lance sits up taller and leans in closer to him.
“My what?”
“Just--!” Keith starts, getting frustrated and pinching the bridge of his nose. “I’m real, okay? We’re not--this isn’t--we’re having a shared dream.”

Summary

As their feelings grow and their relationship blossoms, Keith gets frustrated fighting for a universe bent on destroying itself. He'd rather get out while in one piece and spend the rest of his days peacefully with Lance. But is a happy ending possible for the Paladins of Voltron?
