“It’s an old tradition in Galar for people to gift an Applin, or anything in the shape of one, to someone they love. It isn’t always a confession, mind you—I have heard of proposals done with Applin before. Regardless, the old rumours say it’s a promise for forever,” Opal explains. “As you might expect, it used to be a very popular thing for Trainers to do for one another on Valentine's Day. You don’t see it as much these days, though.”
“Perhaps because that doesn't seem like the smartest gift,” Bede muses, brows furrowing. “Forever isn’t something you can promise. And besides, not everyone knows how to handle a Pokémon like that. For all you know, it could just get abandoned as soon as things don’t work out.”
Opal nods slowly. “You are right—it does happen, unfortunately. Although, I’m certain someone like Victor wouldn't do anything so heinous to any Pokémon under his care.”
A pause. “Are you…suggesting I should catch an Applin for him for Valentine’s Day?”
