Summary
Stan stepped over to the head of the ship and stared out at the open ocean, wishing he could undo the last 20 seconds. He knew that Ford hadn’t told him everything about the last 30 years. That the boy he’d grown up with and the man he was sailing around the world with were disconnected, though still strung together by some fundamental parts. He knew 30 years had passed; he just hadn’t expected it to be so hard to accept that things had changed. It almost would have been easier if Ford was a different person entirely— easier to navigate, at least. This was much more complicated.

A Twins in Time AU where Ford sees Stanley as a little kid and it's exactly what he needs to snap him out of his petty, angry haze because he realizes that he’s supposed to be the big brother, damn it. And looking at this little Stanley who’s lost and scared makes him realize he’s a dick and instead, he pours all his regret and remorse into the tightest hug Stan has ever had.
A second chapter features Werewolf!Stan interacting with a young Ford (because there's always time for a werewolf!au) and probably a third where the older versions of the twins reconcile (see: Ford apologizing and adult!stan getting a hug too.)

“Don’t touch that button!”
Stan’s chest is heaving with exertion and the muscles in his legs are burning in ways he had forgotten were even possible. His eyes scan over Soos and Mabel, finally landing on Dipper, whose hand is hovering just inches above the kill switch.
Stan holds up his hands in a placating gesture and slowly creeps into the room towards them. He’s so close, so close to getting his brother back, it can’t end like this. He knows he’s a fuck-up, even more so now that he’s staring into the kids’ terrified eyes. He tried. He tried to keep them away from all of this shit, but that’s yet another thing he failed to do right.
“Dipper, just back away,” he says, as gently as he can. Stan walks towards him slowly, keeping his hands in front of him. He sucks in a shaky breath when he gets close enough to see the expression on Dipper’s face.
Anger. Disappointment. Betrayal. Distrust. Hatred.
The kid’s always reminded him of his brother, after all.
OR
a re-write of Ford's return scene (s02e11- s02e12) where Ford doesn't punch Stan, and instead gives him a much deserved hug.
