Summary
It must have been Karen who’s summoned him, Matt thinks, although how she’s gotten in touch with Frank and convinced him to help, he’s got no idea. Frank did always have a soft spot for her — she was the only one he’d talk to, during the trial, and he’d saved her from those thugs shooting up her apartment (although Matt’s still not entirely sure what happened after that— Karen had always been a bit vague about Frank “kidnapping” her from police custody).
He knows Karen and Frank were in touch while Matt was recuperating after Midland Circle— but Karen had also been light on the details of Frank’s involvement when she’d been used as a human shield by that suicide bomber..
Now that Matt thinks about it, there’s a lot of stuff Karen’s been vague about when it comes to Frank.

“I can’t believe you’re finally letting me meet this man friend of yours,” Foggy says gleefully, handing her a bottle of bourbon. There’s still a bit of snow dusting his shoulders from outside, and she rolls her eyes as she shuts the door and points to the hook on the wall for his coat. He’s been talking about this dinner all week, trying to trip her up by asking little details when she’s distracted to try and get more (see: any) info.
“Promise me you’ll behave,” she begs, because she’s not above that. Not when her nerves are already fried. Not when she’s on negative hours of sleep trying to plan the logistics of what’s about to happen.
Foggy is going to meet her boyfriend.

“Wait! Karen. Um.” Lisa wrings her hands and glances at her dad, who raises a brow. “I was wondering–I heard you say you don’t have Christmas plans. Dad is making a ham, and mashed potatoes and pie and everything. And I would–we would–like it if you came for dinner. To say thank you. And sorry. Please.”
“Oh!” Karen pauses, glancing between the two as she watches the silent conversation their faces seem to be having. “Well, thank you Lisa. That’s very nice of you to offer, but I wouldn't want to intrude.”
“You wouldn’t!” Lisa smiles pointedly at her dad. “Right, Dad?”
The ensuing silence is deafening, and then Frank finally turns and smiles, looking awkward but not upset. “Hope you like lumpy mashed potatoes.”

Karen gets into a minor car accident and comes out of it attending the Castle holiday dinner.
