“So, um…” Akechi cleared his throat, causing Ryuji to turn back to him. “Since when do you drink coffee? I seem to recall you said it was bitter.”

In which Ryuji Sakamoto orders a cup of coffee in an attempt to impress a certain Detective Prince and, hopefully, get him to notice him as more than just a teammate.

    Summary

Usually that look of distrust, of distaste, is rooted in the Galra blood. In the near-expectation people have that one day he’s going to lose himself to it.

But he’s never had them look at him like this because of his father, before. Because he dares to call himself human, because he dared to survive.

It’s worse. Somehow, this is so much worse.

    Summary

Once he’s safely in the Jeep Buck lets his head fall back against the seat. He’s not having a panic attack, he’s not going to be sick, and he’s certainly not going to cry. Buck just feels lost. Suddenly he’s as much the kid the others think him to be. How is he supposed to cope with this.

“Why are you still fucking dead?” Buck asks the imaginary Bobby in the passenger seat. “You were supposed to be here for me for this sort of shit. You were supposed to tell me what to do.”

In the wake of Bobby's death and the birth of his nephew, Buck receives a diagnosis and makes some well meaning, but ultimately ill considered life choices. Will the path he's set himself on break him? Or will it be the making of the next new iteration of Buck?

    Summary

“Saws and jaws,” Captain Bobby Nash barks, looking back towards Buck.

Buck’s muscles knot. His breath catches, a sob burning up his throat. He presses the palm of his hand to his mouth, rubbing his palms deep into his rough skin. He felt his pulse hammer in his skull, in his slick palms, deep in his chest. Long before LA. Long before any of this.

“You okay Buckaroo?” Hen emerges, voice soft and concerned. Her hand finds its way onto Buck’s shoulder, resting carefully as not to scare him. She looks down into the busted-up car.

    His world blurred, eyes foggy.

No no no, this isn’t how it ends. They were supposed to be here for Jee-Yun, for Maddie. They were supposed to be here to see all Jee go to college, or Maddie get promoted like she deserved. They were supposed to be here to see Buck succeed in life. Buck never imagined this day would come so quickly, at such a harsh moment, in such a horrible place, at his work in the middle of an accident.

No matter how shitty they were to him, he loves them more than life itself.

Shaky, he turns to face Hen. Her concerned look only grew as he looked back. The words come out raw and reluctant, like they didn’t belong.

    “My parents are dead.”
