The reasons for this are deep and complicated, fostered by two years of friendship and an unnamed something that has been nestled in David’s breast since Shadow Moses, but he is a creature of habit by nature. It’s saved his life before, and habit creeps up on him again now, reminding him to be on edge. Reminding him that there is someone untrustworthy in the same room as him, and he should have his back to a wall.
After the Tanker Incident, Snake and Otacon attempt a frantic mission to steal a body, and try and repair the trust that broke between them.

Snake used to say: "I'm blue collar, you're white collar." It was a half-joke that marked an easy divide in their roles, between the physical and the technical.
Otacon can't really agree, not when his white collar is so often stained with his partner's blood. It's hands-on work he could never have anticipated, but someone's gotta do it.
If only he wasn't so squeamish.
