It could mean him picking up all of Nat’s calls, so long as she picked up all of her dad’s. It could mean, even, Syd making him an iced Americano with her fancy espresso machine every time he drove her to work.
But as Carmy’s eyes went half-lidded, she knew she wasn’t misunderstood. Her words rang a bell to the most important agreement they’d decided on, months ago. One that had kept them more than afloat.
