Summary
“Dream,” he says carefully, sitting down on the coffee table across from him. It’s new to him still, this name. Pulled from his stranger’s hoarse throat on their way out of the manor. Dream. His poor friend.
Dream looks up at him. His expression is guarded. Wounded. “I owe you,” he says, in his low, sibilant voice, “a boon.”
As a reward for his rescue, Dream offers Hob what he's always wanted most. Dream himself.

“By all means, my sister,” Dream dismissively flicked his hand towards the foolhardy peasant with an indulgent smile only barely playing around his lips. “Be my guest. If he is to be your champion in this wager, and your gift he is not granted, it seems only right that you should inform him of these circumstances.”
“If that is your wish, brother, then so it shall be.”
And with that, Death gathered her skirts, and strode over to Robert Gadling’s table.Instead of Dream, it’s Death who walks up to Hob Gadling in 1389, and meets him every hundred years thereafter.

What would happen if Hob Gadling landed on Orpheus’s mysterious island in the year 1800? What would unfold if he befriended that sad, despairing boy who thinks about death but still carries a spark of life within him? After years of absence and avoiding his son, Dream of the Endless comes to ask Orpheus for help in finding his lost brother.
